Workshop on modernisation of Danube vessels

INDanube together with the PROMINENT (H2020) and the GREEN DANUBE (DTP) projects organised on 18 April 2018 in Vienna the workshop on the modernisation of the Danube vessels fleet.
For the PROMINENT project this was the very final event disseminating the outcomes of the project in the region, as the project ends in April 2018. For GREEN DANUBE, this workshop was organised as the National Workshop discussing with the stakeholders the environmental aspects of the Danube transport and collecting valuable feedback for the elaboration of the general strategy aiming at the reduction of the air pollutants emissions in the Danube countries and the necessary contribution of the inland waterborne transport to achieve this objective.
The workshop fulfilled its goal to inform the inland navigation sector about the newest innovations and technologies as well as to provide short insight about current financing options and planned future actions to support the greening of the sector. The participating vessel operators, as well as other stakeholders using the Danube as the transportation corridor, the representatives of the public administrations and ministries gained the necessary insight into the challenges connected with the modernisation of the Danube vessels fleet and insight into the available technologies & innovations helping to green the Danube fleet. This know-how will be used especially by the vessel operators to identify the priorities, technologies and financial volumes needed for modernisation of their fleet which will then lead to elaboration of the consolidated fleet investment plans and will become an input for the state aid schemes in the Danube countries supporting the modernisation of the inland waterborne transport (all part of the new DTP project GRENDEL which was recently selected for funding from the Danube Transnational Programme).
