Published: August 11, 2016
During the 2016 TEN-T Days in Rotterdam, the Ministers of the Danube Riparian States discussed several measures for ensuring an effective waterway infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance on the Danube and its navigable tributaries. The Ministers plan to allocate the necessary national budgets and to make full use of EU co-financing opportunities for the implementation of the required measures. They will report annually and meet every two years or as necessary to follow-up on the present “Conclusions” and make sure that they are implemented as agreed. The Conclusions were signed by all representatives of the Danube riparian states, with the exception of Hungary.
Regarding the Romanian-Bulgarian common sector, Romania committed to carry out in 2016 dredging on the entire common sector. On the long run, the EC needs to come up with a solution together with the relevant Member States.
Following the signature of the Conclusions, the Coordinator for the Rhine-Danube Corridor Ms Karla Peijs discussed together with the Romanian and Bulgarian Ministers, Mr Costescu and Mr Moskovski the possibility to draft a framework contract between the two countries in order to reduce the administrative burden and react more swiftly in case of future draught emergencies. It was agreed to further discuss on this issue.
