Greening Danube Fleet – Policy Agenda Workshop

The Danube River is an important international waterway crossing 10 countries including several protected Natura 2000 sites. Inland navigation is an efficient, safe and environmentally friendly mode of transport. In order to further reduce the environmental impact and to improve the economic performance of Danube navigation, it is necessary to stimulate the modernisation of the Danube fleet. Until now, the Danube´s full potential is not used, in the last decades there has been a lack of infrastructure maintenance & investments, little innovation in the inland fleet resulting into little improvements for the reduction of the pollutant emissions from vessels.

To be able to properly respond to all challenges and needs, an integrated policy approach is needed across the Danube region and on European level. The Interreg/DTP project GREEN DANUBE looks into these policy needs on a transnational level. PDM as project partner of GREEN DANUBE therefore will organise an expert workshop debating status and prospects of the inland navigation fleet greening. A structured debate of invited the IWT stakeholders from public authorities, fleet operators and other IWT experts shall achieve a common understanding of needs, options and required framework conditions for improving the efficiency and environmental performance of the Danube fleet. The workshop also shall provide recommendations for future policy making.

INDanube is invited to participate and present its activities supporting modernisation of the Danube fleet and facilitating the innovation transfer to the IWT stakeholders.

The workshop will be held in German with presentations in English.

Participation of interested stakeholders is welcomed. For registration please contact Mr Markus Eppich: eppich@prodanube.eu
