Berths as element for a future oriented inland navigation

European workshop by CCNR and viadonau on vessel berths

There are few inland navigation topics that have dominated the media in recent months as much as inland navigation vessel berths. The discussion ranges from the loss of existing attractive berths in city center locations, the shortage of car dropping locations, the impact of noise and pollutant emissions on city center air quality and local residents from vessel s at berth to future requirements such as the mandatory use of shore power at individual berths.

The workshop aims to help solve these inland navigation challenges and in particular to identify the role played by berths in the social sustainability of the inland navigation system.

To this end, CCNR member states experts will be sharing their experience of identifying the requirements for berths, planing and equipping berths and car dropping locations and their new berth management procedures. To enable the interested parties from the Danube region to participate in these technical discussions, the even this being organised in cooperation with viadonau – Österreichische Wasserstraßen-Gesselscharft mbH in Vienna.

The workshop is aimed at waterway, lock, port and terminal operators, the shipping industry, the river commissions and other international inland navigation organisations.
